A NOTE FOR BARON BASUNING

I have known Baron Basuning for four years, and it’s my second time opening for his solo exhibition.  I know Baron as a democracy activist, a journalist, and for the last 10 years, he has been passionately concentrating on the art world, a choice which according to his words was “a point of no return.”
His long experience and adventures in various parts of the world undoubtedly serve as the source of his inspirations that capture issues in life and life itself. The style he focuses on, abstract pattern of painting, becomes a wide horizon for him to express on and to move the pieces of life into an independent story or an interconnecting one on a white canvas.
As a non-academic artist, Baron tends to employ his spiritual senses in crafting and I find it fascinating. Baron’s freedom of expression is a thing that we have to appreciate, not to mention his reputation in continuous exhibitions that demonstrate his constant determination in searching and exploring.
“True Colors”, the theme of his current presentation, emphasizing on color dialogues and a quest for “true colors”, is in line and very relevant to contemporary Indonesia.  Let’s hope this exposition will inspire us to build the same dialogue with colors of honesty, in order to look at Indonesia’s brighter future with more meaningful colors.
 Let’s appreciate.
